Indo-Pak. BSF to step up border deployment: Cavalry women troopers to patrol; Preparation to increase vigilance on river routes

The Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab is gearing up to increase vigilance to check drug, ammunition smuggling and infiltration. After speculations of infiltration of terrorists from Pathankot area, now BSF can increase the number of its personnel in sensitive areas. Not only this, the idea of deploying mounted troops on the border is also going on. Just as soldiers patrol on camels on the Rajasthan-Pakistan border, horse-mounted soldiers are being trained on the Punjab border. A unit of women soldiers is also being given special training for this. More troops were deployed in the Gurdaspur sector (from Ajanla in Amritsar to Pathankot) to prevent the infiltration after receiving information about the infiltration of Pakistani terrorists into Pathankot. 500 km. 20 battalions of the BSF protect the area in Punjab which is over 500 km long border. Currently there are approximately 20 battalions of BSF, which are active in Punjab. 18 of them are deployed along the border, while the remaining 2 are deployed as needed at Attari Integrated Check Post in Amritsar and Kartarpur Corridor Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district. Demand for battalion to monitor drone movement According to a senior BSF officer, a request to increase the BSF battalion to monitor drone movement on the Punjab border has been sent to the Centre. Since 2019, drone movement has increased significantly in the border districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran. In view of this, the Union Home Ministry has been asked to consider this demand. According to Punjab and Delhi officials, more troops are to be deployed along the Punjab border to effectively protect the riverine areas. 48 culverts are being constructed on the Ravi and Sutlej rivers on the Punjab border, of which 25 have been completed. Small drones a matter of concern Former governor of the state Banwarilal Purohit, who recently visited Punjab, also expressed concern over the drone movement. It was also indicated that vigilance was being increased at the border. At the same time, the latest technologies will soon be used to monitor drone movements. BSF Punjab Frontier Inspector General Atul Fuljale while talking to the media recently expressed concern over the movement of small drones. He said that these drones are successful in smuggling even during the day. This is because they fly high and do not make any noise.
