An encounter took place between security forces and terrorists in Ketsun Forest area of Bandipora, Kashmir on Tuesday. In which one terrorist was killed. According to officials, the security forces received information about the terrorists hiding in Chontpathri forest of Bandipora. After which a search operation was started by cordoning off the area.
During the search, the militants opened fire on the security forces, after which an encounter ensued. Security forces also retaliated, in which one terrorist was killed. However, it is suspected that other terrorists are hiding in this area. The encounter is still ongoing.
Earlier also on November 2, a terrorist was killed during an encounter in Khanyar of Srinagar. Four jawans were injured in this encounter.
4th encounter in last 5 days In early November itself, there have been 3 encounters between security forces and terrorists in Srinagar, Bandipora and Anantnag. In which 4 jawans were injured and 3 terrorists were killed. One of the terrorists killed on November 2 was identified as Zahid Rashid. Another was Arbaaz Ahmed Mir. Both took training from Pakistan. The fourth encounter is underway in Bandipora.
On November 2, the army killed top army commander Usman alias Chhota Waleed in Srinagar.
An aide of the terrorists was also caught Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested an accomplice of the militants along with 22RR and 92 battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He has been identified as Ashiq Hussain Wani, a resident of Tuzar Sharif in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir. Police recovered one pistol, seven live rounds and one magazine from his possession.
5 attacks by terrorists in October
- 28 October: 3 terrorists killed in Akhnoor. Terrorists fired at an army ambulance near LoC. After this they ran towards the forest. No army personnel were injured in the encounter which lasted for 5 hours.
- 24 October: The PAFF organization claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack on an army vehicle in Baramulla. The police said that after the attack, the terrorists fled towards the forest.
- 24 October: Terrorists fired at a laborer in Batgund of south Kashmir's Pulwama district. The worker was injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment.
- 20 October: A doctor from Kashmir, an engineer from MP and 5 laborers from Punjab-Bihar lost their lives in Ganderbal's Sonmarg. The Resistance Front (TRF), an army outfit, took responsibility for this.
- 16 October: A non-local youth was shot dead by militants in Shopian. After the attack, a search operation was conducted to find the terrorists in the area.
