Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar's helicopter has made an emergency landing at Ralam in Munsyari, Uttarakhand. Bad weather is said to be the reason. The helicopter was heading towards Milam. He was also accompanied by State Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande.
CEC had planned to go from Milam to Nanda Devi Base Camp for trekking, but bad weather turned around at 1 pm. As soon as the pilot was aware of the danger, he prudently made a safe landing of the helicopter in a nearby field.
DM spoke to CEC, they are safe. After landing, the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials present with him were taken to a nearby guest house.
ITBP personnel were to be met in Nanda Devi Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat said that the Chief Election Commissioner visited Milan Glacier. There he was to meet ITBP personnel at Nanda Devi. From there he was going to meet the villagers of Pachu, Matoli etc. areas of Pithoragarh district. He wanted to see what kind of challenges there are regarding elections in high attitude. But, at around 1 am the DM of Pithoragarh informed about the emergency landing. After this the emergency landing information was taken by satellite phone. Staff and other people present with the Chief Election Commissioner have been interacted with.
He said there was no problem. Everyone is safe. They have all the equipment and food. He said it may take seven to eight hours for the team to reach there due to the long distance. Apart from this, if the weather remains clear, they will be brought to Munsyari by helicopter.
Yesterday announced the assembly election dates in Jharkhand and Maharashtra Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has announced the assembly election dates in Jharkhand and Maharashtra on October 15 on Tuesday. Voting will be held in two phases in Jharkhand. In the first phase, 43 seats will be polled on November 13 and in the second phase, 38 assembly seats will be polled on November 20.
Elections will be held in a single phase in Maharashtra. Elections for 288 assembly seats will be held on November 20. The counting of votes will take place on November 23. Rajeev Kumar also announced the dates of by-elections in 13 states including UP. Voting for the by-election will be held on November 13.
