Immediately after the Maharashtra election results, the Congress has been continuously raising questions on the Election Commission and EVMs. On Friday, Congress leader Bhai Jagtap made a controversial statement regarding the Election Commission.
Talking to news agency IANS, Jagtap said – Election Commission is a dog, which sits outside PM Modi's bungalow. Unfortunately, all the agencies created to strengthen democracy are being used to perpetrate scams across the country.
On this statement of Jagtap, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya said on Saturday – This is an insult to the constitutional institution. It will not be tolerated. I have filed a complaint against Jagtap with Election Commission and Mumbai Police. On the other hand, the Election Commission has called a meeting of the Congress on December 3 over allegations of irregularities in voting data in Maharashtra elections.
Jagtap refused to apologise, saying – what he said was true
Jagtap refused to apologize for his controversial remarks. Jagtap reiterated on Friday evening that the country's democracy has been brought into disrepute because of the Election Commission. On the dog comment, he said, I will not apologize at all. If he is working under the pressure of the Prime Minister and other ministers then what I have said is true.
The Election Commission is there to strengthen the country's democracy, not to serve anyone. I stand by my words. Jagtap further said that the Congress brought in EVM technology as it was being used in France and America, but after 2009, doubts started growing over its use.
Congress objects to Maharashtra election results, writes to Election Commission The Congress on Friday alleged gross negligence in the vote-counting process of the Maharashtra assembly elections. The party has written to the Election Commission seeking a personal hearing.
