EDITOR'S VIEW: I am Samudra, I will be back…: Fadnavis' words come true four years ago, beats Eknath Shinde in Rajhath, interesting journey to become Maharashtra CM for third time

The curtain has fallen on the epic drama of Maharashtra which has been going on for 12 days. There was a tug-of-war between Shinde and Fadnavis in Rajhath's music chair. Finally, Devendra Fadnavis has sat in this chair. Sudhir Mungantiwar and Chandrakant Patil proposed the name of Devendra Fadnavis as the Chief Minister in the BJP legislative party meeting. The proposal was approved. Fadnavis said in his thank you speech that Ek hain to safe hain, Modi hain to mumkin hain… There the card of Devendra Fadnavis' swearing-in ceremony went viral on social media. In the card his full name is written along with his parents – Devendra Saritatai Gangadharrao Fadnavis. Hello, Nath of Maharashtra is not Eknath anymore. As Rajnath Singh was sent to Rajasthan, Nirmala Sitharaman and Vijay Rupani were sent to Maharashtra. Rupani and Sitharaman delivered the message of the high command. Amidst all this, Eknath Shinde finally accepted the post of Deputy Chief Minister. Ajit Pawar is destined to become the deputy chief minister for the sixth time. In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti's boat has reached the rocking shore, but now there may be a long head-to-head in account allocation. Why was Devendra Fadnavis the strongest contender? Why is it important for BJP to have its own Chief Minister in Maharashtra? Maharashtra is an important state both politically and economically. In such a situation, every party wants its own government here. From the point of view of politics, there are 48 Lok Sabha seats and 19 Rajya Sabha seats. There are 288 seats in the Legislative Assembly and 78 in the Legislative Council. Maharashtra has a population of about 13 crores, which is 9.3% of the country's population. Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is the financial capital of the country. Maharashtra accounts for about 14% of the country's GDP. Maharashtra is number one in direct tax collection. 39% of the country's direct tax comes from here. The state ranks sixth in terms of per capita income. Many infrastructure projects are currently underway in Maharashtra. Because of all this, every party wants to form its own government in the state and to have its own CM, so it was decided from the moment BJP got more seats that the CM will be BJP's. What is Shinde afraid of? For Eknath Shinde, stepping down as CM is a risky decision for his political career. By winning 57 seats, Shinde has almost won the battle of Shiv Sena's legacy. In such a situation, Shinde has not got the chief ministership and now if he does not get a powerful ministry, the morale of his workers will also be affected. Shinde fears that his image will be tarnished. The funding required to run one's party will also be heavily affected. Shinde's eyes were on the CM's chair till the end. It didn't get it, but now they have their eye on strong sectors like Home, Urban Development and Finance. If he does not get any important ministry from them, his image in Maharashtra will become very weak. Shinde does not want to undermine the image he has created. Why made Shinde the Deputy CM even though BJP could form the government single-handedly? This victory is BJP's biggest victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections so far. BJP alone has won 132 seats. Apart from this, an independent MLA has also supported the BJP. This number is just 12 seats short of the majority figure. In such a situation BJP was in a position to easily form the government with NCP. However, BJP cannot ignore Eknath Shinde. Some of the important reasons are as follows… 31 Mahayutti leaders can take oath as ministers Maharashtra election results were out on November 23. Mahayuti ie BJP-Shiv Sena's Shinde-NCP Pawar won an overwhelming majority of 230 seats, although Devendra Fadnavis from the BJP was expected to become the Chief Minister. The formula of one CM and two Deputy CMs has been decided in Mahayuti ie BJP, Shiv Sena Shinde and NCP. 19 BJP, 7 NCP and 5 Shiv Sena leaders can take oath. Who is Devendra Fadnavis? Devendra Fadnavis was born on 22 July 1970 in a Marathi Brahmin family in Nagpur. Father Gangadhar Rao was an RSS campaigner and BJP leader. Gangadhar Rao was also a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council for some time. Devendra Fadnavis has been a member of ABVP since his college days. Devendra became an RSS preacher in Nagpur within a short period of time. Devendra had a political legacy from his father, so it was not difficult to establish his identity. In 1992, first elected as corporator in Nagpur Municipal Corporation. In 1997, he became the youngest mayor of Nagpur at the age of 22. Elected as MLA from Nagpur assembly seat in 1999. In 2013, he became the state president of Maharashtra BJP. He became the Home Minister and Law Minister of Maharashtra in 2014. He became the 17th Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 2019. When he became Deputy CM in 2022. Now he has become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra again in 2024. Brother Ashish's Important Role in Devendra Fadnavis's Family Devendra's father Gangadhar Rao was active in politics. Following this, Gangadhar's elder son Ashish also became active in politics. Devendra's elder brother Ashish Fadnavis gave up his political career after the death of his father. He took charge of the family and promoted his younger brother Devendra in politics. Devendra Fadnavis is married to Amrita Ranade. Both had an arranged marriage on 17 November 2005. Both have a daughter named Divija Fadnavis. Wife Amrita herself is a banker, actress and singer by profession. Devendra's mother-in-law is a doctor in Nagpur. Why did Fadnavis hate Indira? Devendra Fadnavis once said in an interview to India Today that his father Gangadhar Rao was also arrested in 1975 when Emergency was imposed across the country. This made Devendra hate Indira Gandhi. Hate until the school he attended was called Indira Convent School. He left school at the age of 6, because the school was named after Indira. It was 2006 when Atalji said to Devendra Fadnavis- 'Come… Model MLAji'. It had been 7 years since Devendra Fadnavis became an MLA. Huge hoardings were put up at every square in Nagpur city advertising private clothing shops. Devendra Fadnavis, whose picture was displayed in these hoardings, was a model, so he has also done modelling. Photographer Vivek Ranade clicked photos for these hoardings. This news reached Atal Bihari Vajpayee. A few days later he asked Devendra to come to Delhi to meet him. Vajpayee welcomed Fadnavis and said 'Come… Model MLAji'. Devendra joins hands with Nitin Gadkari's opponent Gopinath Munde MP from Nagpur, Maharashtra and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's mentor Gangadhar Rao. This Gangadhar Rao means Devendra's father. Due to this relationship, Gadkari and Fadnavis family had close relations. When Devendra Fadnavis first became an MLA, Gadkari was the only senior BJP leader in Nagpur region. It is said that it was Nitin Gadkari who first gave Devendra an assembly ticket by telling the BJP. Devendra Fadnavis and Nitin Gadkari were very close to each other. At that time, Devendra Fadnavis was seen on stage with Nitin Gadkari in BJP events held in Vidarbha and Nagpur region. Later Nitin Gadkari started facing challenge from Gopinath Munde in BJP. Seeing the changing political equation, Devendra Fadnavis distanced himself from Gadkari and joined hands with Gopinath Munde, considered his opponent in the party. Soon this decision of Fadnavis was proved right and Fadnavis who never even became a minister, succeeded to become the president of Maharashtra BJP. In 2014, Narendra Modi's government was formed at the centre. Then the BJP decided to field a non-Marathi leader in Maharashtra. Fadnavis' name was at the forefront of this strategy. Devendra Fadnavis became the first BJP Chief Minister in Maharashtra, despite breaking away from the alliance with the Shiv Sena, the BJP won 122 of the 288 seats in the 2014 assembly elections. In 2009, it got only 46 seats. After this victory, BJP decided to make Devendra Fadnavis the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the age of 44. He became the second youngest Chief Minister of Maharashtra after Sharad Pawar. Not only this, after almost 49 years, if any Chief Minister has completed his five-year tenure in the state, it is Fadnavis. Before him, Vasantrao Naik completed his 5-year tenure. Vasantrao Naik was the Chief Minister for 11 years from 1963 to 1975. Became the CM for the second time in 2019, but had to resign after just 80 hours On 21 October 2019, the 288 assembly elections were held in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena and BJP alliance NDA won majority with 61.4% votes. As soon as the election results were announced on October 24, both the Shiv Sena and the BJP claimed the post of Chief Minister. A constitutional crisis arose in Maharashtra after the government was not formed for 19 days. President's rule was imposed in Maharashtra on 12 November on the recommendation of the Governor. After 10 days, Congress and NCP decided to form the government with the help of Shiv Sena. Devendra Fadnavis and NCP's Ajit Pawar reached Governor Bhavan at midnight. He claimed to form the government. President's rule was lifted from Maharashtra at around 5.47 am. Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister. However after 2 days Ajit Pawar returned to NCP along with his supporting MLAs. Devendra Fadnavis could not prove majority in the assembly and had to resign after being CM for 80 hours. Finally, even before Devendra Fadnavis' name was announced as CM, posters in support of Fadnavis were put up in Nagpur. A poem is written in this poster. The title of the poem is- Wapas aana pada hai… The poem is like that… Patthar ki bandish se bhi kya bahti nadiyaan rukti hai, Halaton ki bhati se kya apni nazre zhukati hai, Kismat se har panne par kismat likhwana pada hai, Jeesman Mashal sa jazba ho wo dip jalana falla hai, wapas ana falla hai, again wapas ana falla Hai… Watch Monday to Friday at 8 pm Editors View… (Research: Yashpal Bakshi)
