MLA and CM's son-in-law demand withdrawal of central forces BJP MLA and CM Biren Singh's son-in-law Rajkumar Imo Singh has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting withdrawal of central forces. These organizations demand that a separate Kukiland be created in Manipur, which should be a union territory. These organizations say that the only way to get the state out of caste strife is to create a union territory with a legislature on the lines of Puducherry. The Chief Minister rejected the demand of Kuki groups for separate administration (Kukiland). CM Biren said that he will not allow the identity of the state to be weakened. Biren belongs to the Meitei community, though he has assured a special development package for the area where the Kukis live. Apart from this, another viral audio of CM Biren has created an uproar. This audio is attributed to CM Biren Singh. The audio contains objectionable comments on the ongoing violence in Manipur since May 2023. However, the Manipur government says that the Chief Minister's voice has been tampered with in the audio clip. This is being done to derail the peace initiative in the violence-hit state. BJP leader's house set on fire On August 31, the house of BJP spokesperson T Michael L Haokip's father was set on fire in Panial village of Manipur. While sharing the video on X, Haokip alleged that this cookie is the work of people. Haokip said it was the third time his house had been attacked in a year. Last week too, more than 30 gunmen fired several rounds. Over 200 people have died in ongoing violence since May 2023 Violence has been ongoing in Manipur since May 3, 2023 between the Kuki and Meitei communities over reservation. According to government figures, 226 people have died so far due to violence. While more than 1100 people have been injured. More than 65 thousand people have left their homes.
