Delhi pollution- AQI crosses 400 in 4 areas: notice to central employees- come to office at different times, use public transport

AQI crossed 400 in 4 stations of Delhi. A decrease in AQI was observed elsewhere.

Even on Friday, Delhi remained the most polluted city in the country. The Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 400 in the capital's Anand Vihar, Bawana, Mundka and Wazirpur. However, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an average quality index of 371 was recorded at 7 am, slightly better than the AQI of 419 two days ago on Wednesday.

The central government has instructed its employees to work at different hours so as to reduce pollution. Employees have also been instructed to use public transport.

Earlier Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have also changed their office timings. NMDC launched night cleaning drive to curb pollution. Under this, in many areas, cleaners were seen cleaning at night.

If GRAP 3 and 4 apply then closure of schools is mandatory

  • The Commission for Air Quality Management (CQAM) has changed the GRAP rules in Delhi-NCR, which now requires closure of offline classes in schools after implementation of Stage-3 and 4 of GRAP. Earlier the state government had the power to do or not to do this.
  • As per the changed rules, after the implementation of Grade 3, classes till 5th will stop, but studies will be online. Once GRP-4 is implemented, education up to class 12 will be done online.

GRAP also underwent these 2 major changes

  • Under GRAP-3, state governments have been asked to modify the working hours of public and municipal corporations. So that traffic jams can be reduced and pollution can also be reduced. The move is part of efforts to improve air quality.
  • A mask advisory has also been implemented under GRAP-4, asking people to wear masks when going outside when the air is very bad. This step will also help in preserving their health.
