Delhi Assembly Elections- AAP First List Released: Fielded 11 candidates, gave tickets to 6 BJP-Congress leaders

Aam Aadmi Party has announced the first list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. There are 11 names in the list. Six of them are leaders who left BJP or Congress and joined AAP.

Brahmsinh Tanwar, Bibi Tyagi and Anil Jha recently left the BJP. While Zubair Chaudhary, Veer Singh Dhingan and Sumesh Shaukin have joined AAP from Congress.

The current term of the Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, 2025. The Election Commission completes the election process before the date of expiry of the five-year term of the current House.

The last assembly elections were held in February 2020, in which the Aam Aadmi Party won an absolute majority and 62 out of 70 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win only 8 seats, while the Congress did not even open its account.

Kejriwal spent 156 days in jail, then released

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal came out of Tihar Jail on September 13 and thanked the activists.

ED Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in the liquor policy case. Later on June 26, the CBI took him into custody from the jail. Kejriwal spent around 156 days in jail. Currently out on bail. Two investigating agencies (ED and CBI) have registered a case against him. Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court on September 13 in the CBI case. At the same time, he got bail from the Supreme Court on July 12 in the ED case.

Resigned from the post of CM after coming out of jail After coming out of jail, Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of CM on September 17 evening. Atishi and 4 ministers were present with him. After this, Atishi claimed to form a new government. Meanwhile, the Delhi government also convened a 2-day assembly session on September 26 and 27. On the change of power, the BJP said that Navnirman will not hide the scars of AAP.

Atishi was sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi on September 21. He was administered the oath by Lt. Governor (LG) Vinay Saxena at Rajnivas. After the oath, Atishi touched Arvind Kejriwal's feet. He is the youngest (age 43) CM of Delhi. Before this, Kejriwal became the CM at the age of 45. Atishi is the third woman CM of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dixit.

AAP formed in 2012 will get national party status in 2023 After the Anna movement, Arvind Kejriwal formed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on 2 October 2012. On April 10, 2023, they got the status of a national party from the Election Commission. For any party to get the status of a national party, it needs to get 6% votes in four states in Lok Sabha or assembly elections. The party secured more than 6% vote shares in Delhi, Punjab, Goa and Gujarat.

Apart from Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party has a government in Punjab. Party organization is also strong in Haryana and Gujarat. The party has three MPs in the Lok Sabha and 10 in the Rajya Sabha. AAP cadres are also active in other states of the country.
