Several students were injured in a clash during a Diwali celebration program at the Jamia University campus in Delhi.
A clash broke out between two groups during a Diwali program at Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia University on Tuesday. Nazarejonar said that during the clashes, some students also shouted slogans in support of Palestine. He made lewd comments on female students. The injured students were taken to the hospital late at night.
DCP Ravi Kumar Singh said that on the occasion of Diwali festival, holidays are falling in the colleges of the university. Hence the celebration was held on Tuesday evening around half past six. Meanwhile, a group of students raised slogans and created a ruckus. In response to which another group also raised slogans.
After this the matter escalated to blows. We reached the spot as soon as we got the information about the fight and after explaining to the students the situation was brought under control. In view of the tense situation, a heavy police presence has been arranged in the university on Wednesday morning as well.
It was claimed on social media that religious slogans were raised on the Jamia University campus.
Nazarejonar said – People from outside commented on the student An eyewitness student claimed that some outsiders made lewd comments at the female students. He kicked and broke the lamp and then spoiled the rangoli. Comments were also made about the student's dress.
Slogans of Allah Hu Akbar and Palestine Zindabad were raised in Jamia Meanwhile, students of a certain community raised religious slogans. A crowd of more than 100 people created a ruckus. People were also raising slogans of Allah Hu Akbar and Palestine Zindabad. The atmosphere became tense with sloganeering.
Allegations of the students – the university administration kept silent
The aggrieved students alleged on Wednesday morning that several officials, including the university's chief proctor, were present when the commotion broke out, but they did not stop the students. Even when students were injured, the university remained silent.
There was a police presence outside the Jamia Millia Islamia University this morning.
