Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has worked as a radio announcer in Hindi and English languages. In a recent interview to All India Radio, he said that he had moved to Delhi from Mumbai in 1975. Then he auditioned for Akashvani. After this he did many radio shows in Hindi and English. He also did many western music shows. He expressed his personal relationship with radio.
He often went to the studio with his mother Recalling his childhood, the CJI said that his mother was a classical singer, who often performed on All India Radio. Meanwhile, CJI was also accompanying him to the studio in Mumbai. He said he grew up listening to news bulletins in Hindi, English and Sanskrit with his parents.
Chandrachud will retire on 10 November 2024 CJI Chandrachud will retire on 10 November 2024. He was appointed as the country's 50th Chief Justice (CJI) by President Draupadi Murmu. He was sworn in as the Chief Justice on 9 November 2022.
Justice DY Chandrachud's full name is Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud. His father Justice YV Chandrachud was the 16th CJI of the country. The tenure of Justice YV Chandrachud was from 22 February 1978 to 11 July 1985 i.e. about 7 years. Justice DY Chandrachud has also overturned two major decisions of his father in the SC. He is famous for his outspoken decisions.
Noida Twin Tower Case- Both towers of Super Tech in Noida were demolished on August 28. On August 31, the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of the tower. The National Building Code regulations were violated in the construction of the twin towers.
Hadiya case – In Kerala, Akhila Ashokan alias Hadiya (25) married a Muslim boy named Shafin in 2016. The girl's father has alleged that this is a case of love jihad. His daughter was converted and forced into marriage. After this, the High Court annulled the marriage and ordered Hadiya to be kept with her parents. The matter then reached the Supreme Court and the court rejected the Kerala High Court's order annulling Hadiya's marriage.
Privacy was considered a fundamental right– In 2017, the Supreme Court considered privacy as a fundamental right. Chandrachud was also included in this bench. The court in its decision wrote – There were serious flaws in the majority decision in the ADM Jabalpur case. By accepting the Constitution, the people of India have not surrendered their lives and personal liberties to the government.
Unmarried women also have the right to abortion– The Supreme Court has given the right to abortion to all women, whether married or unmarried. The court said that under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, everyone has the right to have an abortion between 22 and 24 weeks. The bench was headed by Justice DY Chandrachud.
