The Union Home Ministry on Friday released the Tamil Nadu government from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) Rs. 944 crore has been sanctioned. Cyclone Fangal hit Tamil Nadu on 30 November and the state was heavily affected.
The central government also sent a central team to review the devastation caused by the fengal in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said – after receiving the IMCT reports, additional financial assistance will be provided to the disaster-affected states from the National Disaster Relief Fund.
Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 2 seeking Rs. 2 thousand crores assistance was demanded.
About 69 lakh families and 1.5 crore people were affected by Cyclone Fangal.
28 states have received assistance of Rs 21718.716 crore from the Centre
The central government has given assistance of Rs 21718.716 crore to 28 states in 2024, out of which 26 states have been given Rs 14878.40 crore from State Disaster Relief Fund and 18 states have been given Rs 4808.32 crore from National Disaster Relief Fund.
Apart from this, an amount of Rs 1385.45 crore has been given to 11 states from State Disaster Fund and Rs 646.546 crore to 7 states from National Disaster Fund.
Apart from financial assistance, the central government has also provided all assistance by deploying NDRF, Army and Air Force to flood and cyclone affected states.

CM MK Stalin demanded Rs 2 thousand crores from the Centre
Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 2 seeking Rs. 2 thousand crores assistance was demanded.
Stalin said that around 69 lakh families and 1.5 crore people in districts of North Tamil Nadu like Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai and Kallakurichi were affected by Cyclone Fangal.
He said that preliminary assessment of the state government shows that to compensate this loss Rs. 2,475 crore is required.
