Ceasefire violation after 7 months in Jammu-Kashmir: 1 BSF jawan injured; Pakistani Rangers opened fire 7 days before assembly polls

At 2:35 am on September 10–11, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the border in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir. In response, BSF personnel also opened fire. A BSF jawan has been injured in this firing. A BSF spokesperson said that the extent of damage to Pakistan in the retaliatory action was not yet known. After this incident, BSF personnel are keeping a close watch on the border. The ceasefire violation occurred 7 days before the first phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir, which is scheduled to take place on September 18. Because of this BSF personnel have been kept on high alert. A ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was renewed on 25 February 2021. After this Pakistan has violated it 4 times. The last firing took place on 14 February 2024 in Makwal, Jammu. However, no one was injured. Pakistan violates ceasefire 4 times after agreement 14 February 2024: India and Pakistan exchange fire for 20 minutes, no one injured On 14 February at 5.50 pm, Pakistani Rangers opened fire on a BSF post in Maqwal, Jammu. BSF also responded to this firing. According to BSF officials, there was firing from both sides for about 20 minutes. However, no BSF jawan was injured in this firing. 8 November 2023: Border firing in Ramgarh sector of Samba, BSF jawan martyred On 8 November 2023, Pakistani Rangers fired at Nayanpur post in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. In response, the BSF personnel also opened fire. BSF jawan Lal Fern Keema was injured in the firing. He died during treatment. The firing took place at 12.20 pm. 26 October 2023: Pakistan fires mortars, BSF jawan and woman injured Pakistan violated ceasefire in Arnia and Suchetgarh sectors of Jammu on 26 October. Pakistani Rangers suddenly started firing at the international border at 8 pm. In which a BSF jawan and a woman have been injured. The firing from both sides continued till three in the morning. 17 October 2023: Pakistan violates ceasefire for the first time since the 2021 peace accord On 17 October, Pakistani Rangers opened fire along the India-Pakistan border. In which two BSF jawans were injured. The incident took place at 8:15 am at the international border. A BSF spokesperson said the soldiers were climbing an electric pole to fix lights when they were shot. Ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan renewed in 2021 India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021. Both countries announced that they will strictly abide by all agreements on ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and other areas. This was subsequently announced in a joint statement issued in Islamabad and New Delhi. India and Pakistan initially signed a ceasefire agreement in 2003, but Pakistan continues to violate the agreement. In February 2021, the then Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said in the Lok Sabha that a total of 10,752 cases of ceasefire violations were reported along India's border with Pakistan in 2018, 2019 and 2020. In which 364 security personnel and 341 civilians were injured. There were more than 5,000 shootings in 2020, the most in a single year.
