The blast took place near the CRPF School at around 7:30 am on Sunday in the Prashant Vihar area of Rohini Sector 14, Delhi. Police officials said that no one was injured in the incident. The wall of the CRPF school, nearby shops and some cars were damaged.
A purported video of the aftermath of the blast has also surfaced on social media, showing white smoke, police said. Senior police officers from bomb disposal squad, forensic team, crime branch and special cell as well as fire brigade reached the spot for investigation.
According to sources from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, the initial investigation report has suggested that the material used in the explosion is similar to a crude bomb, but the official information will be available only after the complete report. The investigation is still ongoing.

The NSG team reached the spot and investigated the area surrounding the blast.
After the blast, NSG and FSL teams collected evidence. A dog squad team was also present with them.
The police received information about the blast at 7:47 through a PCR call Police officials said, “At 07:47 am on Sunday, a PCR call was received. The caller informed that a blast had taken place near the CRPF School in Sector 14, Rohini with a very loud sound. The SHO and staff reached the spot. Shop windows and cars parked near the shop were also damaged.
Local people said – we thought that there was a blast in the gas cylinder Hearing the explosion, the people of the area came out of their houses and shops. Sumit, who runs an eyeglass shop near the scene, said, “The windows of my shop broke. All the goods inside my shop fell on the ground. It was a very loud explosion.”
Rakesh Gupta, who lives in the area, said, “Around 7.30 am, we heard a very loud noise. We felt that an LPG cylinder had burst nearby. We immediately informed the police and fire department about it. Glass panes were broken. Many Shops were broken.”
Also probed from the angle of terrorist attacks Delhi Police officials said alerts have also been issued to nearby police stations to increase vigilance and investigations. Foot patrolling in markets has also been increased. People are requested to report anything suspicious to the police immediately.
According to the police, Delhi Police's ATS is probing the incident from a terrorist angle. Sewer lines and CCTV footage are also being examined. The National Security Guard (NSG) has also been informed.
