Bilkis case: Supreme's refusal to remove comments against Gujarat government

The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition by the Gujarat government, seeking review of the verdict on certain comments made against the state during the hearings related to the Bilkis Bano case. Along with canceling the state government's decision to grant relaxation of sentence to 11 in the Bilkis Bano case, the Supreme Court also slammed the Gujarat government and made several comments.

Train accident case: Supreme says no more adjournment The Supreme Court on Thursday said it will hear the appeals filed by the Gujarat government and several convicts in the Godhra train incident case on January 15. Also clarified that the next hearing will not be adjourned. On February 27, 2002, an S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express caught fire at Godhra station, killing 59 people. Then riots broke out in the state. Several appeals were filed in the Supreme Court challenging the October 2017 judgment of the Gujarat High Court. The High Court commuted the death sentence of 11 convicts to life imprisonment.
