Bhaskar Exclusive: 2280 km long new roads to be built in Rajasthan and Punjab along Pakistan border

  • Army can reach 48 hours earlier

The Modi government is strengthening the Western Front amid preparations to strengthen infrastructure on the Eastern Front adjacent to China. A network of link roads will be laid near the wire fence along the border with Pakistan and to connect it. 4,406 crores will be spent to build 2280 km long roads in the border areas touching Rajasthan and Punjab.

This has been approved in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project was prepared in 2021 by the Central Coal Construction Department (CPWD) in the construction of roads. After that the Ministry of Home Affairs approved it. Cabinet approval for the fund was awaited for a long time. Army will reach the border in less than 48 hours after the project starts.

This road network will be China's answer to CPEC In response to China's economic project 'Seapac' in Pakistan, India will build a three-layer road along the western front, i.e. the western border. Construction of 1,491 km long two-lane road 40 to 50 km from the border and 1,254 km long Amritsar-Jamnagar economy express-way under the Bharatmala project is almost complete. Apart from infrastructure, its importance is also high from a strategic point of view.

More than 1,590 km of roads will be constructed near Rajasthan-Punjab Right now there is a dirt road near the wire fence. It will be made ripe. This will make it easier to patrol the border along with transporting heavy vehicles. CPWD has planned to build approximately 2 thousand km of roads in Rajasthan and Punjab. A 1,590 km long road will be constructed in both the states based on wire fencing. In this, a 1,037 km long single lane road will be built on the border near Rajasthan and 553 km long along the border near Punjab.

The state government has constructed 200 km road along the border near Gujarat The Gujarat government has already constructed a 200 km long road along the border with the state. Of the 508 km long border adjacent to Gujarat, 262 km border is muddy. While the construction of approximately 200 km of road near the border was done during Narendra Modi's tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Apart from the road network along the border, electricity and water networks were also strengthened. Following this, there has been help in installing wind and solar panels there. It has also increased border tourism.
