Bagmati Express collides with freight train in Tamil Nadu: 12 coaches derailed, 19 passengers injured; The train moved from the main line to the loop line

The Mysore-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a freight train near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. An accident on October 11 at 8:30 pm derailed 12 coaches, one coach and one staff van caught fire. 19 people have been injured in this accident. 1360 passengers were on board the train.

According to Southern Railway, the accident took place near Kavraipettai railway station, 41 km from Chennai. The speed of Bagmati Express during this period was 75 km per hour.

Bagmati Express was given the green light to run on the main line after crossing Poneri station at 8.27 pm, the railways said. Before reaching the Kavraipettai railway station, the pilot and crew of the train suffered a severe shock.

After the shock, the train left the main line and went to the loop line. A freight train was already standing here. Bagmati Express collided with it. Railways is investigating how the train entered the loop line.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin said that the government is rapidly engaged in relief and rescue work. A separate team has been formed to assist the passengers present at the spot and for their onward journey.

Passengers were rescued from the derailed coach.

As soon as the news of the accident was heard, the local people and the police reached there.

Deputy CM said – I met the injured Deputy CM of Tamil Nadu Udhayanidhi Stalin said – We personally met the passengers injured in the train accident. All are undergoing treatment at Stanley Hospital. We have asked Dean about the information on the injured. We have also sought information from the District Collector of Tiruvallur regarding the accommodation arrangements for the passengers present at the venue.
