Assembly Elections: Abaki Bar 370 issue in Jammu and Kashmir

There are 8 major political parties in the fray in the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which three major parties have made Article-370 a mainstay of their campaign. In fact, on 5 August 2019 Jammu and Kashmir is going to hold the first assembly elections after the abrogation of Article 370 with all the major parties making it the biggest issue. The National Conference (NC), People's Democratic Party (PDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Apni Party, People's Conference, Awami Ittihad Party and Democratic Progressive Azad Party are in the fray in the Jammu and Kashmir elections. Apart from this, many small parties and independents are also contesting the elections. These parties have not only specifically mentioned Article 370 in their election manifestos, but parties are also mentioning 370 in rallies and events. BJP touting benefits of scrapping 370 National Conference: NC's manifesto promises Article 370 and statehood. Omar Abdullah has confirmed that the ratification of Article 370 is his main agenda. Congress has not focused on Article 370, demanding statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. PDP | Special states are emphasized in the manifesto of PDP. The PDP said that the abrogation of Article 370 has complicated the Kashmir issue. Mehbooba Mufti said that her party would make efforts to reinstate Article 370 and ensure peace in the Valley. BJP: The BJP has been promoting the benefits to Jammu since the abrogation of Article 370, which took away the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Shah challenged the Congress on whether it was upholding the NC's manifesto promise to reinstate Article 370. Jammu-Kashmir: 279 candidates in first phase, only 5 women among them There are only 5 women candidates out of 279 nominations in the first phase of Jammu-Kashmir assembly elections. NC, BJP, PDP have given ticket to one woman each. Ghulam Nabi Azad said – Will not campaign Former CM of Jammu and Kashmir and president of Democratic Progressive Azad Party Ghulam Nabi Azad will not campaign in support of his party's candidates in the assembly elections. The cause is shown to be not good health. DPAP announced the list of 15 candidates for the first phase.
