A highway with a car in the air: Not a Rohit Shetty film, this is a video of the Delhi-Vadodara Expressway; A fine of ₹50 lakh to the contractor

Cases of negligence in road construction and repair frequently come to light across the country. Recently, a video of the Delhi-Vadodara Expressway in Alwar went viral on social media, in which a speeding car was seen flying in the air due to a defect in the road.

After this video went viral, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways took immediate action and imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh on the contractor. In this matter, NHAI has clarified that on the direction of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the matter was thoroughly investigated and strict action has been taken against the responsible officials and agencies.

50 lakh fine to the contractor At present, on the direction of the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the matter has been investigated and strict action has been taken against those responsible. The contractor has been fined Rs 50 lakh for not repairing the roads on time. The team leader-cum-resident engineer and the site engineer have been sacked. Show cause notices have been issued to PD and Manager (Technical) for defects.

The bad road was repaired The location was captured on video and full repairs could not be made immediately due to rain in the area. However, immediate repairs were arranged. An investigation team of domain experts including Professor KS Reddy of IIT Kharagpur and Professor GV Rao of IIT Gandhinagar has been constituted.

It may be noted that Delhi-Vadodara Expressway in Alwar is also called Super Expressway. Vehicles move at a speed of 120 km per hour on this. Alwar and Dausa areas of Rajasthan have the highest number of road accidents on this expressway. The main reasons are uneven road height, poor balance and potholes.
