A freight train loaded with coal derailed in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. 23 coaches including engine overturned while derailing. The accident occurred near Bhanwartank railway station when the goods train was going towards Bilaspur.
As soon as the accident was reported, railway employees and officials reached the spot. Rescue work has started. Coal piled up on the track due to overturning of the freight coach, due to which 6 trains plying on this route have been cancelled. 9 routes have been diverted.

Both the up and down lines were completely damaged in the accident. It may take more than 2 days to resume movement of vehicles on the road. OHE wires and signal poles were also damaged in the accident. It is feared that the railways will lose crores of rupees in this accident. Traffic on both the up and down routes has been completely affected.

Due to this incident, all trains on the Bilaspur-Pendraroad-Cut railway route have been affected. After the accident, Shahdol-Bilaspur Memu is standing at Pendra Road railway station. As soon as the information was received, the railway officials reached the spot and started clearing the track.
