2 Firefighters killed at Artillery School in Nashik: Shell explodes during firing practice, Court of Inquiry begins

Two firemen were killed when a shell from an Indian field gun exploded during a firing practice at an artillery center in Maharashtra's Nashik district. The accident took place on Thursday (October 9) afternoon at the Artillery Center in Nashik Road area.

Officials said that Agniveer Gohil Vishwaraj Singh (age 20) and Saifat Shit (age 21) have died in this incident. The incident took place when a team of firefighters was firing from a cannon, when a shell exploded.

Vishwaraj and Saifat are seriously injured, the official said. He was immediately taken to MH Hospital in Devlali. Where the doctors declared both dead.

The officer said that based on the complaint of Havildar Ajit Kumar, a case of accidental death has been registered in Devlali Camp Police. Further investigation has been conducted in this matter.

Regarding the incident, NCP leader Supriya Sule wrote on Twitter – Two firemen were killed in an explosion during training at an artillery center in Nashik, this incident is very sad. Heartfelt tributes to these two soldiers, we all share in the grief of the families of both the soldiers. The Ministry of Defense should grant martyr status to both these soldiers and give the benefit to their families.

Agniveer lost his life in Mockdrill a week ago A week ago, on October 4, Agniveer died during a mock drill to put out the fire. The accident took place in Rajasthan's Bharatpur. Agniveer Saurabh was posted in Army Area 103 AD Battalion. During a fire mock drill in the training camp, Saurabh threw the cylinder upside down and it exploded with a bang. Fragments of the cylinder hit the jawan on the chest. He was taken to hospital, where he died a few hours later.

1 lakh firemen will retire in 2026-27: 42% of them are preparing for government jobs, as opposed to 25% who will join the permanent army

42% of the soldiers retiring in 2026-27 from the first batch of Agniveers will be taken up in government jobs. This number is different from the 25 percent fire fighters who will be inducted into the army. That is, after being adjusted in the army, the remaining 75 percent of the soldiers will be adjusted in various ministries of the central and state governments.
