How to make black gram soup
Material
1 cup boiled black gram, 1 tbsp oil or ghee, 1 onion (finely chopped (optional)), 1 tomato (finely chopped), 2-3 garlic cloves, 1 inch ginger piece chopped, 1 – 2 green chillies chopped, 1 teaspoon cumin, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, salt and pepper as per taste and fresh coriander for garnish.
How to make black gram soup
-Black gram should be soaked for at least eight hours or overnight.
-Cook the soaked black gram in a pressure cooker with enough water for 20 to 25 minutes or until it becomes soft.
– Heat oil or ghee in a large vessel or pan, add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
– Fry the mixture until the onion turns golden brown.
– Add chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric, salt and black pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes become soft and the spices mix well.
– Add boiled black gram with water or vegetable broth.
Cook the soup on low flame for ten to fifteen minutes to let the flavors meld.
-Serve hot and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
