Thalapati Vijay's Statement on Anna University Rape Case: Said- Accused should be punished soon, need to pay attention to women's safety

Actor and Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party president Thalapathy Vijay has given a statement in the Anna University student rape case in Chennai. He described the incident as painful and demanded strict legal action from the Tamil Nadu government against the accused. Chennai police have arrested the biryani seller in this case.

Actor Vijay Thalapathy wrote on his social media handle that the news of sexual harassment of a student of Anna University is seriously shocking. However, the police have informed that the person who committed the sexual assault has been arrested. I request Tamilnadu government to take legal action against him at the earliest. Besides, if anyone else is involved in this heinous crime, action should also be taken against them.

Vijay said, using the Nirbhaya Fund we get every year, we should identify places where women are not safe. After this facilities like smart pole, emergency button, CCTV camera and telephone should be installed there. Safety of women should be ensured in buses of all cities, toilets should be built for women in public places, emergency telephone and mobile app facilities should be made available for women safety. Also, all these facilities should be monitored to ensure that they are working properly.

Know what is the whole matter? According to Chennai Police, an engineering student of Anna University was sexually assaulted. The matter came to light when the student herself complained about it. The student said that around 8 pm on Monday night, she was talking to her friend on the college campus. The accused then reached there and raped her.

Greater Chennai Metropolitan Police said the victim lodged a complaint at the Kotturpuram Women's Police Station and a case was registered. After this, the matter was investigated, on the basis of which a person, who runs a biryani shop on the footpath, has been arrested.
