Superstars have been associated with television for years – Vikrant Massey: 'When asked to work there, they say – we don't work with TV actors'

Actor Vikrant Massey is in the limelight these days due to his upcoming film 'The Sabarmati Report'. The film will release on November 15. Vikrant has spoken to Frontpage Insights ahead of the film's release. Vikrant spoke about his struggle during the interview.

Vikrant said that he started as a TV actor. When he moved from TV to films, he was faced with an inferiority complex. Being told that you are a TV actor, you will never get lead roles in films. Apart from Vikrant, the film's lead actresses Riddhi Dogra and Rashi Khanna also spoke on the issue.

We used to say to our face – we only make films with stars. Vikrant said, 'I was told that you are a TV actor, you can never become a hero in films. Big studios used to say that we make films only with stars. We cannot give you the lead role. At that time I was going peacefully.

Today, even big superstars are stuck on TV as judges in reality shows, singing shows and dance shows. They also know that even today there is no medium bigger than TV. However, when an actor from the same TV goes to seek work among them, he is looked down upon.

Shah Rukh, Irrfan and Om Puri were also TV actors, must watch Vikrant further said – Why are people who work in films and then come on TV not called TV actors? By the way, he also works in TV 5 days a week. People who look down on TV actors should watch actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Irrfan Khan and Om Puri Sahab once. All these once worked on television.

People got four houses each because of Ekta Kapoor. Riddhi Dogra said- I have also been a TV actress. My friends still say that we have a stigma as TV actors. I understand this too, but never discuss it. I don't want to react to people who don't understand the capabilities of TV actors.

You see Ekta Kapoor once. I think that hardly anyone has given as much work to outsiders. Because of that, people have built four houses each.

Rashi Khanna said- Well, I haven't worked in TV, but I understand the point of discrimination. However, we have people like Vikrant Massey and Riddhi Dogra for example. These guys have made a distinct niche in films by coming from TV. Actors who want to move from TV to films should watch the journey of these two and learn from them.
