Singer Gurdas Maan said- Songs should be made with a social message: 'Sikhs are portrayed as a joke in films, Animal changed the trend'

Singer Gurdas Mann's new album 'Sound of Soil', the first song 'Main Hi Juthi' has been released. The album has 9 songs, which Gurdas Mann considers like 9 gems. After the release of the first song of the album, Gurdas Man spoke to Frontpage Insights on many issues other than the album. According to him, singers should create songs that convey the message of maintaining peace in the society. Songs full of negativity should not be made because the youth get disillusioned with it and start doing wrong things. Mann also expressed his opinion on the portrayal of Sikhs in films. He said that films portray Sikhs as a joke. Only in Ranbir Kapoor's film 'Animal' the image of Sikhs is shown strongly. Let's start the conversation with singer Gurdas Maan…. Q- You appeared in an album video after a long gap of 7 years, tell us about this album 'Sound of Soil'? Answer- Everyone took a two-and-a-half year break during the corona epidemic. Many things were lost during this period. The situation was almost desperate. At the same time, some of our solo songs, called singles, were released recently. But yes the album is released after a long time. The 'Sound of Soil' album has 9 songs and all have different flavours. These 9 songs are like nine gems. Mati means to be attached to the soil. In reality I am attached to my soil. I am lucky that I have never had an ego. The love and respect I get from fans is my real income. Question- You are seen dancing in songs too. Where do you get this kind of energy? Answer: I am always singing. Sometimes I also dance. But when I am asked to sing in bandish it becomes a bit difficult. Then it becomes difficult to dance. There is elegance in the choreography. In this you have to dance comfortably. We have to dance according to the choreographer. Such restrictions exist. During the shoot I also have to pay attention to the lyrics of the song so that the flavor is not lost. The dance should be in harmony with the words of the song. For this I practice properly. South choreographer Shankarji is a master of this. They make me proper preparations. We have 25 years of friendship. He does the choreography for each of my projects. Question- The pain of partition of the country is clearly visible in your songs, what to say about this? Answer: Yes, this is absolutely true. People of neighboring countries are also ours. The truth is that no one can divide Mother Earth. This is beyond everything. Today, people everywhere talk more about dividing than uniting. My attempt is to spread brotherhood among people through songs. Q- What is your opinion on Punjabi songs in rap or new versions? Answer- Music has changed a lot with time. The earlier songs gave a glimpse of the film's story. But today it seems that we are coming by looking at item numbers. At the same time, I measure songs by their popularity in the world. We can clearly see that the popularity of Punjabi songs is increasing day by day. This is being heard in foreign countries as well. Punjabi songs have become a part of every kind of function. It is absolutely magical. I always try to give a social message to society through songs. Even today, massacres are happening everywhere. People have become thirsty for each other's blood. We are also seeing things that we have never seen before. I wrote a song – Mein Dharti Punjab Di. The song was with a social message. A person close to me told me that this song is being loved by children as well as elders. In fact, children at a school performed a play on the song, which moved the audience to tears. Question- Gun culture has increased a lot in Punjab. Incidents like the murder of Siddhu Moosewala have also happened. What is your opinion on this? Answer- We consider singers as our ideal youth. The audience starts following the things we show through our songs. In such a situation, we should be careful that we give only positive messages through songs in the society. Even singers should occasionally work for the welfare of society. They are already making money. Question- Sikhs have their own heroic saga, but in films their image is shown in a slightly negative form. what do you mean Ans- I had seen the movie 'Roti Pradho Aur Makan', in which a Sardar was shown being mocked. Sardar's turban is not seen in films. It looks like he is wearing only a cap. Actually Sardar looks very handsome wearing turban. Sardar's image is shown a bit weak in films. I have only seen the image of the real Sardar in the movie 'Animal', which is shown with enthusiasm. Well, all these things depend on the director's thinking. Question- You have also acted in films. Viewers demand that you work in more Hindi films. Will this happen? Answer- I am very passionate about Punjabi songs. I like singing songs more. I feel a little scared while acting. Question- Why did you refuse to work in many films? Answer- No, it is not. I have never refused to work. Why wouldn't I want to work with big actors, actresses and filmmakers? Q- Maan Sahib, how was your childhood? Answer : My childhood was normal like other children. Childhood is very pure. Things like caste, religion, politics have no place in this. My childhood was spent in fun and singing. Whoever heard the songs started humming. Have also worked in the fields. Q- How did you join singing? Ans: I was inclined towards music since childhood. Although I never thought that I would become a singer. Because of this I never had the opportunity to learn music. Q- How did you develop interest in Judo-Karate? Answer: Over time I became interested in it. As a result of physical education I am still fit today. I have also written lyrics on it. Q- What do you consider to be the biggest struggle in life? Answer: The greatest struggle is to protect the fame that God has given us from the evil eye. God has blessed me with these things, but it is my responsibility to take care of them. Q- Is there a wish you want to fulfill? Answer: I have a doctorate degree, but I have not added it to my name. My only wish is that people always love and respect me.
