There was always a filmy atmosphere in the house. Whenever I went out with him, I only heard about films. This was the reason why we were not introduced to any other world except this one. I had decided in my childhood that I would do the work that my father was doing.
However, everything changed after the death of the father. I was young when he died. Over time, the financial condition of the family also deteriorated. That's why I started working very early. Secondly, there was also an obsession to do better in the world of films.

About this he said, 'I started working at the age of 17. Initially I had made up my mind that I would either become an action director or a director. Like other stragglers, I too had to struggle during such a long journey. Like others, I had to weave many papads to get work. Made the first film, which did not do well. Then 'Golmaal' was created, which created history. I have done 16 films so far. Maybe if covid hadn't come, more would have been made (laughs)…'

Rohit also joined Ajay and started working as an assistant director. 'Raju Chacha' was a big budget film, but the film did not do well. Due to this, Ajay Devgan suffered a lot. Ajay and Rohit had to close the production house for two years. After paying back all the loans, they directed 'Zamin' together.
Rohit made his directorial debut with the 2003 film Zameen. However, this film also did not do well. Due to the constant flop films, many directors and actors started to shy away from working with Rohit.
Regarding this, Rohit said, 'It is natural to feel bad when a film is not doing well. Then while making another film, many kinds of questions arise in the mind. There is also a dilemma in the mind whether the producer-actor will work with you or not. There is also self-doubt.
After the release of the first film Zameen, work on the script continued for a year and a half and in 2005, work began on the film 'Golmaal'. Then this film released in 2006 changed my entire career.
Although I never thought of quitting the industry during this period, I kept feeling defeated. At the beginning of my career I was not settled in the industry. Because of this there was nothing to lose. My only intention was to engage people with low budget comedy films like 'Golmaal', 'All the Best'.
He became the first filmmaker in the Hindi film industry to introduce a concept like the Universe. Rohit is the first filmmaker in the Hindi film industry, who brought the concept of universe to films. He never planned this though. He said, 'Never thought of this before. Till 2016 I had no such thoughts in my mind. The idea didn't come until 'Singham', 'Singham Returns', but while making the film 'Simmba' the idea came that we could create something like a cop universe. We were lucky that our idea succeeded.
