Shruti Haasan recently opened up about her parents Kamal Haasan and Sarika's divorce. He recounted how he realized the meaning of being financially independent after his parents' divorce. He said that the parents had tried hard to stay together before the separation.

At that moment I realized why everyone should be financially independent. When I looked at my mother I felt that as a daughter I should be financially independent. It's hard to make any decision, but it's even harder when you're depending on someone.'

However, Sarika gave birth to a daughter, Shruti, two years before the wedding. Before marriage, she was in a live-in relationship with Kamal Haasan.
