Shahid Kapoor recently recalled his middle class days. He said that despite being the son of Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima Azim, he felt like an outsider in the film industry. Recalling his childhood days, the actor said that his parents got divorced when he was three years old. After his parents separated, he moved in with his mother, who raised him alone. Shahid said that he also has a good relationship with his father. But he never took any help or advice from his father to advance in the industry.
We lived in a rented house with mother- Shahid Shahid Kapoor shared an incident related to his childhood during a conversation with Faye D'Souza. He said, 'I knew my father and we had a good relationship, but I was with my mother since I was three. I remember I was 14 when Ishaan was born and my mother gave up acting because she had to take care of Ishaan. She was 35-36 when Ishaan was born, and having a child at that age is not easy. Being a working woman with a 14-year-old son, living in Mumbai and a second marriage, all this was very difficult for her. After Ishaan grew up a bit she wanted to act again but it wasn't that easy because people forget you. Mother was trying to manage everything by herself, and at that time we were living in a rented house.

'Never took any advice from father' Shahid continued, 'I had a good relationship with my father but I didn't want to take any advice from him. He was always available to advise and guide me, but I wanted to do everything myself and I was very proud of it.
