Actor Shahid Kapoor revealed that his parents got separated when he was 3 years old. He lived with his mother and could see his father only once a year. Because of this other children used to tease him.

Shahid said- I was 3 years old when my parents got separated
Talking to Raj Shamani, Shahid said – I come from a family where my parents didn't live together since I was 3 years old. I used to spend most of the time with mother. He could meet his father only once a year.
He further said – Parents are like your two legs. But when one leg is missing, you feel like you can't balance. Both parents have a role in the way the world is made. You cannot define it.
'Not dad, but grandpa was always there for me'
Shahid said that even though his father was not present every day, his grandfather was always with him. He said that he also has many good memories with Nanaji.

Shahid said that in his childhood, the children around him made him feel that he was not living with his father. Regarding this he said- 'Children are very selfish. When your parents aren't together, they make you feel bad about it. Other children have made me feel this way too. They didn't know what they were doing. But it seemed as if my life was over.

Shahid Kapoor's mother Neelima married Pankaj Kapoor in 1979. At this time she was only 16 years old. Their marriage lasted only 5 years and got divorced in 1984.
After the divorce, Pankaj married Supriya Pathak. At the same time, Neelima married actor Rajesh Khattar. But his marriage also broke up. He has a son from this marriage whose name is Ishaan Khattar. Shahid shares a good bond with Ishaan.
