Cases of sexual harassment and exploitation emerging from the Malayalam film industry show no sign of stopping. Recently several actresses accused senior actors of Malayalam cinema of harassment. Meanwhile, actress Revathi Sampath has filed a rape case against senior Malayali actor Siddiqui. Police have registered a case under non-bailable offense and started investigation. On Tuesday, actress Revathi Sampath filed a complaint against actor Siddiqui at Trivendra Museum Police Station. The case will be investigated by the SIT (Special Investigation Team), which has been formed to investigate cases of sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry. Actress Revathi Sampat has stated in her complaint that eight years ago in 2016, Siddiqui called her to a Muscat hotel to discuss a film, where she was physically abused. Actor Siddiqui's allegation – Conspiracy to defame him Revathi Sampath had accused Siddiqui of physical abuse shortly before filing the written complaint. After Revathi made allegations, Siddiqui filed a complaint with the Director General of Police that serious allegations were being made against him to tarnish his image. He stated in the complaint that he met Revathi Sampat in the year 2016 in the presence of her parents. Senior actor Siddiqui was the general secretary of AMMA (Malayalam Movie Artists Association). In 2019, the Hema Committee for Women Artists in Malayalam Cinema was formed. On August 19, the Hema Committee handed over a 233-page report to the Kerala government, citing harassment by several big actors. After the report came out, senior actor Siddiqui held a press conference and refuted the claims made in the report. However, it was only after this that actress Revathi Sampath accused him of sexual harassment, following which she resigned as the General Secretary of AMMA. Allegations against these two members of AMMA A few days ago, AMMA general secretary and veteran Malayalam actor Siddiqui was accused of rape by a Malayali actress. After this, Siddiqui has resigned from his post. At the same time, AMMA joint secretary Baburaj was also accused of sexual harassment by a junior artiste. Even after such allegations were leveled against AMMA members, Mohanlal remained silent. In such a situation, many well-known artists also criticized him. The Hema Commission was formed in 2017 following the abduction and sexual harassment of a Malayalam actress in a moving car. The objective of the committee was to investigate allegations of harassment of women in the Malayalam film industry. Former High Court judge Justice Hema, veteran actor Sarada and retired IAS officer KB Valsala Kumari are part of it.
