Pankaj Tripathi's wife Mridula was the sole breadwinner in her family when Pankaj came to Mumbai and struggled to find work in the film industry. The married couple moved to Mumbai, where Mridula worked as a teacher. Pankaj has also mentioned in many interviews that he got a lot of support from his wife in the early days of his career. Because of this he had to work less than other stragglers.

Pankaj got recognition from the film Gangs of Wasseypur. Even after doing many films, Pankaj Tripathi did not get the recognition he got from the film 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. Her role in the film was highly appreciated. After this, Mirzapur, which released on OTT, made the character of Kalin Bhaiya even more memorable.
Fell in love at a wedding function 17 year old Pankaj fell in love with Mridula at a wedding ceremony. The difficulty in carrying this palava story to the marriage was that Pankaj's sister was married to Mridula's brother and according to the tradition of their house he could not marry his sister Nananda.
