Pandit refused to perform Amitabh-Jaya's marriage ceremony: said- Amitabh is not a Bengali Brahmin, later he somehow agreed

Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan got married in 1973. It is said that Jaya Bachchan's father, journalist Tarun Kumar Bhaduri, was against her marriage. However, according to a report, Jaya's father had no objection to their marriage, but Pandit did not want Amitabh and Jaya to get married.

Amitabh-Jaya's marriage was kept secret In fact, in 1989, Jaya Bachchan's father Tarun Bhaduri wrote an article for the Illustrated Weekly of India. In which he told how Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan got married. He wrote, 'One day Amitabh called Jaya's mother and informed her about the marriage and immediately called her to Mumbai. Next day we all reached Mumbai. Our friends live in Malabar Hills, so the wedding preparations were done there. The marriage was kept completely secret.”

Pandit objected to Big B not being a Bengali Brahmin He further wrote, 'I am an atheist, but Jaya's mother wanted the marriage to be done according to Bengali customs. Initially a Bengali Pandit was not available, but with great difficulty when a Bengali Pandit was found, he refused to marry the two, as Amitabh was not a Bengali Brahmin. However, later the matter was somehow resolved. Amitabh also followed all the rituals very well. Amitabh went to London the day after the wedding, when he came back a reception was held in Bhopal. Even there Amitabh did what he told him.'

Jaya's father had no objection to the marriage Jaya's father also gave his reaction to the angry news about his daughter's marriage. He said, 'Give me one reason why I should oppose their marriage. Amitabh is a very nice person. I had complete faith in my daughter that she would never fall in love with a common man. At that time there were many people who said that Jaya was a big star, because of which Amitabh wanted to marry her, but that is not the case. Amitabh waited till the release of his big film 'Zanjeer'. However, Jaya would have married him anyway.
