Oscars 2025: 5 Indian films shortlisted: Box office flop 'Kanguwa' included; 'Missing Ladies' out of the race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the list of films shortlisted for the Oscars 2025. 5 Indian films are included in this list of 232 shortlisted films. 207 out of 232 films have been shortlisted for the Best Film category. Among the shortlisted films from India, there are some films that flopped at the box office.

Nomination of films based on voting All 232 shortlisted films will be voted on, after which they will receive a final nomination at the Oscars 2025. Voting will start from January 8 and will continue till January 12. After this, the final list of nominated films will be announced by the Academy of Motion Pictures on January 17.

'Missing Ladies' From Oscar Race The Kiran Rao-directed film Lapata Ladies was also nominated for an Oscar, however, the film was left out of the final shortlisted list.

Kanguva flopped at the box office, but reached the Oscars Kanguva, made with a whopping budget of 350 crores, has been shortlisted for the Oscars. The film could earn only 100 crore rupees at the box office. Surya, Disha Patni, Bobby Deol were in important roles in the film. After its theatrical release, the film was streamed on Amazon Prime.

Trade expert Manobala has announced Kanguwa's short list along with the list.

Randeep Hooda's independent Veer Savarkar also in the Oscar race Randeep Hooda starrer Swatantra Veer Savarkar, released on 22 March 2024, has also been shortlisted for the Oscars 2025. Based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the film was mired in controversies due to several reasons.

Misses Golden Globes, But 'All We Imagine As Light' Is In Oscar Race Recently, the film 'All We Imagine as Light' directed by Payal Kapadia was nominated in the Best Film (Non-English) category at the Golden Globes. However, the film failed to win awards. Now this film has been shortlisted for Oscar. The film has already won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Oscars will be held in March The 97th Oscar Awards will be held on March 2. Like the last few years, this year too the ceremony will be held in Los Angeles. Last year, Cillian Murphy's film Oppenheimer won 7 awards, including the Best Film Award. However, no Indian film was eligible for Oscar 2024.
