'Old is Gold': Film 'Tum Bin' re-releases after 23 years, actor reveals what has changed in last 20 years

The film 'Tum Bin' which was released in 2001 is now re-released in theaters after 23 years. Talking to Frontpage Insights, actor Rakesh Bapat gave his opinion on re-releasing old films. He said, this trend is very important for the new generation and makes them feel the responsibility of making films. Read the special conversation report:

Old films are being re-released these days, like 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Tumbaad' What do you think about this trend?

According to me this is a good trend because it is said 'old is gold'. It is very important to watch these movies especially for the new generation. I can say that the journey of films in our time is seen as a long and tumultuous one. There was a deep meaning hidden in the films. The writing was also excellent. The songs were also very good. The songs that are there nowadays have only mukhdas, some verses, but are not understood properly. This trend takes us back to our roots, where filmmaking was a hobby, not just a business.

Do you think old time movies are beneficial for today's generation?

Yes, it is true. It gives you a sense of responsibility while making a film. Be it a love story or a war story, it needs to be portrayed well. What Salim-Javed or Gulzar used to write earlier had a deeper meaning. I am happy that now those films are coming back, because the new generation doesn't know all this.

Some films flop at the box office but later become cult films. Do you think this trend will help people understand the meaning of good movies?

I think that's important. Good films should be shown often. I really don't understand movies made these days. I want to see something that I can learn something from or get something better from. Making sense is very important while making a film.

What has changed in filmmaking in the last 20 years?

A lot has changed in 20 years. Earlier more attention was given to writing and singing. Then after 2000 when the films started to be successful among the audience, it became factory style. Earlier it was very special to be in a film. Now it has become very commercial. At first we were nervous about how we would look after growing up. But now everything has changed. Digital has changed everything. Now everything has gone digital.

After 'Bigg Boss', other reality show offers?

To be honest, I wasn't cut out for reality shows. Even for 'Bigg Boss' I was not ready at first, the makers convinced me. I don't understand reality shows and why go where I don't understand. I am not used to running. Whatever I do, I should be happy.

Does discussing your personal life bother you?

No, not at all. Everyone has a personal life. This is a part. You should accept it with grace.
