Vishwanath Gajanan Patekar, popularly known as Vishwa Nana Patekar, was born on January 1, 1951 in Murud-Janjira village in Raigad district of Maharashtra. That is why he came to theater first, then turned to films.
Nana is also in news for her angry nature. When Ravi Chopra offered him the role of a rapist, he abused him. During the shooting of the film 'Parinda', there was a quarrel between Nana and the film's director Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Nana has won three National Awards in his 50-year career. Veteran actors like Satyajit Ray and Dilip Kumar were also impressed by his performance. Nana Patekar has completed 74 years of his life today. Even at the age of 74, he is at the crease like an opening batsman.

Age 13, used to walk 16 km a day Nana's father was doing a small business of textile painting. When Nana was 13 years old, someone cheated his father. The business collapsed overnight. All property sold. Nana also had to go out to earn money. He would go to school in the morning and draw movie posters in the evening. The house was 8 km away from where he used to draw posters. In this way, he used to cover a distance of 16 kilometers in a day on foot. He used to get 35 rupees per month for this work. This period was around 1963. Money was so scarce that sometimes even food was not available. Nana would casually visit his friends at lunch or dinner time. Hoping that someone will ask to eat two chapatis.
Teachers would sit beside them, so that they don't have to get up to beat them frequently Nana was very naughty in childhood. They were so mischievous that the teachers made them sit next to each other so that they would not have to get up to be spanked so often. The storm escalated to such an extent that Nana's mother sent her to her sister's village after sixth grade. Mother felt that it would improve if she moved to another place. Nana stayed at his aunt's house for a year or two, then returned. Aunt herself sent them back. They were afraid that their own children would be spoiled in their brother's company.
They believed that they were not good-looking and had misconceptions about fathers Nana believed herself to look worse than others. Nana's two brothers were better looking than him. Nana felt that father gave more importance to other brothers. Nana used to participate in village plays from childhood. Once he was performing a play in the village. His father had come to the village from Bombay (now Mumbai) just to watch the play. Then the illusion that Nana's father did not love him was broken. Nana then realized that just as he had influenced his father with his art, he could influence the whole world in the same way.
Father was in the hospital, he didn't even have money for medicines The misconceptions that Nana had about her father have dissipated over time, but she still has one regret. The little father could not keep even a single rupee in his hands. Nana recently said this in an interview to Frontpage Insights.
He said, 'I am very sad that I could not do anything for my father with my earnings. He too died in the Municipal Corporation Hospital. At that time I did not even have money for his medicine. My friends helped a lot. He was the one who gave me the money for the medicine.
Ravi Chopra scoffed when offered the role of a rapist Smita Patil Nana B.R. Sent to Chopra's son Ravi Chopra. Ravi Chopra was making the film 'Aaj Ki Awaaz' at that time. He offered Nana the role of a rapist. Nana was furious after hearing the offer. He scolded Ravi in front of everyone. Nana says you consider me a random person, will I play such a role?
Saying that Nana went back from there. Just then Smita Patil reached there. He explained both Nana and Ravi. Ravi Chopra then offered him the role of the main villain. Nana did not directly agree this time either. He said I will, but I will write my character myself. Finally he worked in the film.
Vidhu fights with Vinod Chopra, Nana's kurta gets torn Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Nana Patekar had a fight during the shooting of 'Parinda'. Vidhu himself admitted this during a TV reality show.
He said, Nana used to make jokes in every scene. I found this very strange. I didn't know how to swear at that time. Nana used to scold often. From above, they started to go home without shooting. I said give money first, then go back. Saying that I tore his kurta.
While all this was going on, the cameraman had prepared the shot. If you watch the movie, in one scene you will see a small vest sitting and crying. That shot was taken right after the fight. Well, the shot was perfect. Later Nana hugged me.
Nana appeared in a heap in this scene. Earlier he was wearing a kurta, which Vidhu tore in anger.
Refused to wear safety guard, skinned in fire In the climax scene of the movie 'Parinda', Nana Patekar was shown burning in a fire. Unfortunately, Nana was actually burnt in the fire. Due to which his entire skin came off. Indeed, there was no such thing as artificial fire in the films of that time. A real fire was lit on the set.
The film's director Vidhu Vinod Chopra asked Nana to wear a safety guard. Nana said that if he wears a safety guard, his acting will not look natural. However, on Vidhu's insistence, he covered himself a little.
However, when the scene begins, the fire has touched his body. The skin on his hands and feet was burnt. The matter became serious. He was admitted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. After this incident, Nana stayed away from films for a year.
The movie Parinda was released in 1989. Nana was in a negative role in this film. In the climax scene of the film, Nana was shown burning in a fire.
When the army officer did not answer, he directly called the defense minister Nana Patekar wanted to join the army since his childhood. This dream of his was also fulfilled by the movie 'Prahar' in 1991. Nana underwent an army training program for three years to prepare for the film, which is based on an army background, where he was given the honorary rank of captain. Nana served in the Indian Army in the 1999 Kargil War with Pakistan. However, there is an interesting story behind it.
Nana called a senior army officer and expressed his desire to join the army. The officer said that you are a common citizen, we cannot take you in the army. Then Nana called the then defense minister of the country, George Fernandes. George Fernandes already knew Nana. At first he refused, but when Nana told him about his army background, he agreed. He was given the green light.
Nana was attached to the army in Kargil for two months. There he was part of the Quick Reaction Team. Only those people work in Quick Reaction Team, who are more skilled than others and ready to fight in every situation.
When Nana joined the army, he weighed 76 kg. When he left two months later, he weighed 56 kg.
It rained during the performance Nana acted for 16 years in the drama Purush (1981). He played the role of a villain in this play. His role was so disgusting that women beat his shoes in the middle of the performance. When they came to ask for shoes, Nana refused. He kept those shoes as a mark of respect.
One brother died in Mumbai blast while one brother went to catch a kite Nana Patekar's elder brother Vasant lived in Mumbai at his uncle's place. 14-year-old Vasant fell from the roof while flying kites in Uttarayan. Even today Nana Patekar has not forgotten the memories with his brother.
On March 12, 1993, 12 serial blasts took place in Mumbai one after the other and one of them happened on a bus of Best in Worli. Nana Patekar's brother was killed in this blast. 257 people died and 713 were injured in this blast. A few days after the blast, Nana Patekar went to the Hindu-Muslim area and appealed for peace.
