Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently facing controversy due to an advertisement. A Hindu organization has accused him of tarnishing the image of the Maharashtra Police and demanded legal action against him.
According to a report in the Free Press Journal, the Hindu Janjagriti Samiti has appealed to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Maharashtra Police Chief to take action against Nawazuddin. He says that he has damaged the image of Maharashtra Police by playing the role of a police officer in an online gaming advertisement. The organization accused Siddiqui of defaming the police by promoting an online betting app in police uniform. His committee said the ad was an insult to law enforcement.
Maharashtra State Coordinator of Surajya Abhiyan, Abhishek Murukate has written to the state DGP and Mumbai Police Commissioner demanding action against Nawazuddin and online gaming app owner Ankur Singh. The letter demanded strict legal action under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979 and the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
The letter expressed concern that the police who nabbed the gamblers were involved in the controversy. The Hindu Public Awareness Committee has condemned the advertisement. He believes that if the issue is ignored, there could be an increase in advertisements abusing the police uniform.
The letter states that this tarnishes the image of Maharashtra Police. Ignoring this can exacerbate the problem of illegal advertising. He has also requested Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to look into the matter.
Murukate appreciated the hard work of the Maharashtra Police. He further said that this ad shows that online gambling improves their skills. He also regretted that till date no police officer is taking action against this gaming application. He expressed hope that the Home Minister would pay attention to this.
On the professional front, Nawazuddin was recently seen in the film 'Adbhut'.
