On January 16, Saif Ali Khan was attacked by someone who broke into his house. In the investigation of this case, RPF arrested Akash Kanojia from Durg in Chhattisgarh on suspicion. Soon after his arrest, Shariful was arrested from Mumbai and confessed to the crime, leading to Akash's release. Now a statement of Akash has come out, in which he said that the arrest has ruined his life. He lost his job and his marriage broke up because of the arrest. According to Akash, he was on his way to meet his fiancee when he was arrested.
In a recent interview to PTI, 31-year-old Akash Kanojia said that my family was shocked when the media started showing my photos and claimed that I was a suspect in the case. My life was ruined by the mistake of the Mumbai police. What they failed to notice was that I had a moustache, and the man seen on the CCTV of Saif's building did not.
Akash Kanojia was arrested on January 18.
Akash Kanojia further said that I received a call from the police, in which they asked where I was. The call was disconnected as soon as I said I was home. I was on my way to meet my fiancé, when I was arrested from Durg and taken to Raipur. After that Mumbai Police reached there and abused me.
In the conversation, Akash said that his life has been ruined after the arrest. He said, when I called my boss, he told me not to come to work. He didn't even listen to my explanation. My grandmother told me that the girl I was talking to for marriage refused to take things further.
On his arrest, Akash said that two cases are already pending against me, it does not mean that I am considered a suspect in any case. I have decided that I will stand outside Saif Ali Khan's building and ask for a job. I lost everything because of what happened to them. During the conversation, Akash also said that Shariful was arrested after that, otherwise the police would have produced him as the main accused.
Saif Ali Khan was attacked late at night on January 16, after which he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital. Three people were arrested in this case. A man named Shahid was first arrested on January 17, but he was released. Another arrest took place on January 18 from Akash Kanojia fort, he was also released. The third arrest of Shariful Islam, who was in police custody, was made on January 19.
