'I still regret not helping my father': Nana Patekar says – Father passed away before I started earning, I didn't even have money for medicine

On December 20, the film 'Vanwas', based on father-son relationship, is releasing. It is directed by Anil Sharma. Anil made a blockbuster film like 'Gadar-2' last year. Vanavaas stars Nana Patekar and Anil's son actor Utkarsh Sharma in lead roles. Before the release of the film, Nana Patekar had a special conversation with Frontpage Insights.

Nana Patekar looked a little emotional during the conversation. He talked about his relationship with his father. Nana said that he earned so much money in his life, but could not help his father. This is because his father died before he succeeded.

Question- Nana, film exile for you; What, explain a little? Answer – After a long time I got such a character, such a film, which talked about the anomalies of the society. The biggest irony today is that children do not have time to sit with their parents.

If you ask someone today how many days it's been since he spoke to his father, he won't be able to say. Parents want nothing more than their children. All that should happen is that children keep asking them from time to time. Remember one thing, parents are like philosopher's stone, if they touch us, we too can turn into gold.

Most of the film has been shot in Banaras.

Question- Because this film is based on father-son relationship. So Nana, how was your relationship with your father? Answer- I always thought dad loved my two brothers more than me. However, that was just my illusion. We became very good friends a few years before he passed away. I am very sad that I could not do anything for my father with my earnings.

He also died in the Municipal Corporation Hospital. At that time I did not even have money for his medicine. My friends helped me a lot at that time. He was the one who gave me the money for medicine.

Question- Nana, as people have showered love on your earlier films, will 'Vanwas' get the same love? Answer: Of course, you will get it. People know what kind of films I do. People trust my work. Let me give an example of this. I run an NGO called 'Nam Foundation'. Once I went to a village. An old woman met me there. He gave me 50 rupees. She said I know you will never do bad work, so take small help from me. The woman knew that the money given by her would be spent in the right place. That 50 rupees was worth 50 crores to me. You won't believe it, 'NAAM Foundation' received 60 crores of donations in two months. What if these people don't believe in me?

Nana Patekar has been active in the film industry since 1978.

Question- Tell me if there is any funny incident during shooting? Answer : We shot in Banaras and Shimla. The crew members used to hear a lot from me. However, I also cooked and fed them food. There were about 200 crew members living on the set, I used to cook food for everyone.

I think feeding is also an act of virtue. Our mothers have been doing this for centuries, although we don't thank them at all. We think cooking is their job. It shouldn't happen. We should be grateful for their work and hard work.

Apart from Nana, Utkarsh Sharma is also in the lead role. Utkarsh has appeared in Ghadar and Ghadar-2.

Q- Nanaji, what changes do you see in Hindi cinema between then and now? Answer: Commercial cinema has changed a lot. There was violence in earlier films too, but now it has increased a lot. I will not name such films. However, I am very concerned about what we are trying to show through today's movies.

Today's generation enjoys such movies a lot, that's why their collection is also huge. Society today has changed more than ever. If such films come on top of it, the atmosphere will deteriorate somewhere. I think cinema should not be just a medium of entertainment. It is very important to convey the right message to people through cinema.

Question- Finally, what would you say to those who are going to watch your film 'Vanwas'? Answer- Leaving aside the audience, I also tell you that if you have seen this movie, watch it two or three more times. You will message me after watching the movie. People will even bother the director of the film, Anil Sharma, asking how he managed to make such a film. Also, after this film, the industry will get a new star in the form of Utkarsh Sharma.
