Guru Randhawa turns singing reality show mentor: Says: Nowadays, how a singer presents himself, sells

The singing reality show 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' is making a comeback once again. Musician-singer Guru Randhawa is playing his role as a mentor in the show. In an exclusive conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Guru spoke about the responsibilities of the show, his experience of mentoring new talent and the changes in the music industry. Read some key excerpts from the conversation:

What was your first reaction when you got the offer for 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa'? As soon as I got the offer, I joked, 'Put all the money in the account!' This show is very next level and I am proud to be a part of it. Getting an offer for such a show is a big deal. I am very happy that they chose me and made me a part of this show.

How do you view the responsibility of being a mentor? There is responsibility, but the most important thing for singers is how they present themselves. He sells how he experiments with music. How independent the singers are is also very important. I want emerging singers from this show to feel free and create music of their choice. Because only that music becomes a hit, which people have not heard before.

What is your biggest mantra when mentoring new talent? Just keep going. Win or lose the show, always keep working hard. The most important thing is to work hard. Consistency is the key to success, just like brushing your teeth every day is our habit. So the same thing is with your talent. If you do something every day, you will definitely get success in it.

What big changes have you seen in the music industry? There is a lot of change. Earlier it used to take time to release a song, now it has become easier. There is more responsibility now because people are connected. The audience is watching what kind of music you give. Promotion methods have also changed compared to earlier. Now a new audience comes in every three months, and the music also becomes a hit very quickly. So you always have to be up-to-date. You have to move with this era.

Have you ever been disappointed by a rejection? Getting rejection is important, it gives an opportunity to do something new. Nothing is permanent. Many times viewers think that you are doing the same thing as before. But not so with me. I prepare myself to face rejection every day, so that I can do better. One day I will be successful, as I was on the first day, as I am today. I am making new music, doing films and this show is also new for me. So that's it, I will give my 100% in this, as I give in my life.

What advice would you give to today's budding singers who are starting their careers? In my experience, even when you are working hard, singing in school or college, you have good songs. The listeners who listen today work hard to be a singer, he writes and composes well, so he is the same person. But at that time no one takes you seriously, because you have not proved anything. So if you get rejected by someone, but you have songs, you are already a superstar. Just work hard and take care of your parents and people who help you.
