Punjabi pop singer Diljit Dosanjh and British rock band Coldplay have upcoming concerts in India. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids in 5 cities on Saturday in connection with the two concert ticket scams.
In its initial investigation, the ED found that tickets for these concerts were extensively black marketed. Along with this, ED has registered a case of money laundering in this matter.
Information shared by ED.
Searches were conducted at 13 locations in 5 states Issuing a statement on Saturday, the ED said that on Friday the department conducted searches at 13 locations in Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Punjab. Following this investigation, the agency has registered a criminal case under various sections of the Money Laundering Act.
Notably, Diljit Dosanjh will perform Dil-Luminati concert at Jawahar Lal Stadium in Delhi on October 26 and 27. Coldplay is going to hold a concert in Navi Mumbai in January 2025.
Many mobiles, laptops and SIM cards have been seized During the raids, the ED seized several criminal materials like mobile phones, laptops, SIM cards etc. used in the scam.
The action is aimed at investigating the illegal sale of tickets and the financial networks that support these scams.
ED initiated investigation through FIRs registered across the country In this case, after tickets for both concerts sold out quickly, counterfeit tickets began to be sold. Many people were cheated by this.
When many fans came to know that they have been sold tickets that are fake or higher than the real prices, many of them have lodged FIRs.
The FIR has been registered in several states of the country through which the ED has initiated its investigation. The FIR also includes an FIR lodged by Book My Show against some of the suspects who exploited concert-goers.
Their social media platforms will also be scrutinized The investigating agency is now trying to find out how much revenue is being generated from such illegal activities. Generally, tickets for such concerts are available on Zomato, Book My Show and other apps and platforms.
However, when the demand for a concert is very high, these tickets sell out quickly and then black marketers begin to operate.
In its investigation, the ED is also busy tracking down those who are black marketing these tickets through Instagram, WhatsApp and Telegram.
