'Dadaji used to make cheese macaroni and feed it': Riddhima Kapoor recalls her childhood moments with Raj Kapoor, says – taking her on weekend outings

Riddhima Kapoor had a special conversation with Frontpage Insights on the 100th birth anniversary of Indian cinema's showman Raj Kapoor. Meanwhile, Riddhima Kapoor recalled the moments she spent with her grandfather Raj Kapoor. While sharing some of his best childhood memories, he said that his grandfather used to cook for him himself. Often parties were held at home, but children were not allowed to attend the parties.

Stayed with grandpa every weekend Recalling the childhood moments spent with her grandfather Raj Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor said- We used to spend time with Dadaji in Chembur on weekends. On Saturday she would go straight from school to her grandfather and on Monday morning she would go to school from there. The grandparents were always happy to be around the children, which made the atmosphere happy.

He was very fond of feeding The Kapoor family is very fond of food and drink. Riddhima Kapoor says- Grandfather was very fond of feeding. The dining table was full of food. Anyone could eat whatever they wanted, but he himself ate an egg and a very simple meal.

used to cook for us Raj Kapoor loved all his grandchildren very much. Riddhima says- Dadaji used to cook food for us. Sometimes I used to take friends too. Grandpa himself would go into the kitchen and make cheese macaroni with his own hands and feed it with his own hands.

Whenever a guest came, Dada would serve food to them with his own hands. Even today it is a tradition in our house that no guest is allowed to leave without being fed.

The fridge was full of chocolates There was absolutely no ban on children coming to Raj Kapoor's room. Riddhima says- There was a small fridge in Dadaji's room. It was filled with chocolate. We used to go to her room and eat chocolate whenever we felt like it.

South Indian food was also our favourite No matter how busy Raj Kapoor is, he spends time with his grandchildren on weekends. Riddhima said- Dadaji used to take us to a club called Big Splash in Vashi, Mumbai. Had a lot of fun there all day. After that Dada would take us to Matunga's South Indian restaurant in Udupi. Enjoyed idli and dosa there.

Also visited planetarium and Ajanta Ellora in weekend Riddhima continues – Dadaji used to take us to places where we could learn something along with entertainment. Dadaji would also take me and Ranbir to see the planetarium and the caves at Ajanta Ellore.

Bringing suit for Ranbir and tiara for me Raj Kapoor loved Ranbir Kapoor a lot. Riddhima further says- Dada loved all the children very much. I remember, whenever he went abroad, he would bring a suit for Ranbir and a tiara for me.

We were not allowed to go to parties Raj Kapoor sir loved parties. Riddhima says – There was a party in the house every day. Some star was always present at the party. Since we were children, we were not allowed to go to those parties. So we watched the scene from a distance. I was 9 years old and Ranbir was 7 years old when Dada passed away. We remember every moment spent with him in childhood.
