A case has been registered under the POCSO Act in Mumbai against Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor. The case pertains to Season 6 of the web series 'Gandi Baat' on OTT platform 'Alt Balaji'. Ekta and her mother are accused of filming objectionable scenes of minor girls in this web series. However, this controversial episode is currently not streaming on this app.
A person living in Mumbai lodged a complaint A local citizen has filed a complaint against former alt Balaji producer Ekta and her mother Shobha at the MHB police station in Borivali, Mumbai. The complainant has alleged that certain scenes in an episode of the series were shown in violation of the provisions of the POCSO Act.
Ekta launched the OTT app Alt Balaji in the year 2017.

Due to which the feelings of the complainant were also hurt. Thus, apart from POCSO Act, laws like IT Act 2000, Women Prohibition Act 1986 and Cigarettes-Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 have also been violated in series.
Ekta and Shobha did not react However, no statement has come from Ekta Kapoor or Shobha Kapoor in this matter yet. Recently, the case has been registered against both of them following the court's comment on child pornography. On September 27, the Supreme Court delivered a major verdict on child pornography. The court said that viewing, publishing and downloading such obscene material involving children is an offence.
The previous season of this web series of Ekta has also been mired in controversies.
In 2020 also, a case was registered regarding the same series. Ekta and its web series 'Gandi Baat' have been mired in controversies even before. In 2020, a case was registered against Ekta for showing objectionable content against the army in a season of the series. Ekta also challenged this case in the High Court. It was said from his side that there is nothing objectionable in the web series. The police dismissed the case without investigating or hearing the parties.
What is POCSO Act? “The Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act” This Act has been enacted to protect children from sexual offences. This Act was enacted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in the year 2012 in the name of POCSO Act-2012. This law deals with sexual offenses like sexual harassment, sexual exploitation and pornography and molestation of minors. Different punishments are prescribed for different offenses under this Act.
In the case of rape of a girl child under 12 years of age, the offender can also be punished with death. As per the earlier provision, in cases of rape involving children below the age of 18, the convict was sentenced to a maximum of life imprisonment and a minimum of 7 years.
