Big changes to Oscars schedule: Los Angeles lunch canceled due to California wildfires; The award ceremony will be held on time

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Monday that it is postponing the announcement of Oscar 2025 nominations. According to the Oscars' official website, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer and Secretary Janet Yang said in an official statement, “We have all been affected by the wildfires and many people have suffered tremendously.” The Academy has always been the unifying force of the film industry and is committed to stand together to face every challenge. Due to the ongoing fires in Los Angeles, we feel it is necessary to advance the nomination announcement date to extend the voting period and give members more time.

These are major changes to the Oscars program

  • Voting for the Oscar nominations was earlier scheduled to take place from January 8 to January 12, however, the voting dates have now been extended to January 17.
  • The Oscar nomination announcement date has been extended to January 23. Earlier this announcement was to be made on January 17. The nomination process will be virtual.
  • The Oscar Nominee Luncheon scheduled for February 10 has now been cancelled. That won't happen this year.
  • The Scientific and Technical Awards scheduled to be held on February 18 have also been postponed. Its new date will be announced.
