Amitabh Bachchan mentioned his father's first wife On the sets of KBC, actor Amitabh said, “My father Harivanshrai Bachchan was in a very critical condition after the death of his first wife. He was very sad. All the poems he wrote at that time were filled with sadness. “After a few years, he started going to poet conventions to earn some money.”
Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan met for the first time in Bareilly. Amitabh Bachchan continued, “A friend of his was in Bareilly, UP, he called his father to him. Father also reached Bareilly to meet him. When both of them were eating together, he requested his father to recite a poem. Before Papa begins the poem, his friend asks his wife to call Mata (Teji Bachchan) inside.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan's first wife passed away after 10 years of marriage Shyama died of TB In May, 1926, when Harivansh Rai was in his BA first year, he was married to Shyama Devi who lived in Allahabad. At this time Harivansh Rai was 19 years old and Shyama Devi was 14 years old. After three years of marriage i.e. in 1929, Harivansh and Shyama Devi were born. She had fever only when Shyama Devi came to her father-in-law. During the treatment it was discovered that he has TB. Harivansh Rai was deeply shocked to know this. However, while loving his wife, Harivansh Rai seemed to be constantly monitoring her. After 10 years of marriage i.e. in 1936 Shyama Devi passed away. Harivansh Rai was devastated by the death of his wife.
Meeting with Teji Suri five years after Shyama's death Five years after Shyama's death, i.e. in 1941, Teji Bachchan met with Prakash at a friend's house in Bareilly. This visit took place one day before New Year i.e. December 31. Harivansh Rai recited his poetry. He wrote in his autobiography, “I started reading poetry, I was sitting on a bed. Prakash was in front of me and Miss Teji Suri was standing behind it. My throat filled up as I sang the song. Even Miss Teji Suri's eyes got wet after listening to the poem. The tears in his eyes were falling on Prakash's shoulders. Seeing this, my throat also got filled.''This is where the love story of these two started. After a few days, both of them got married. However, Teji Suri was a Punjabi and hence Harivansh Bachchan's family did not approve of the relationship. Harivansh Rai married Teji against his family. This is why Teji Bachchan could never visit his in-laws.
