As an Amitabh hero, 'Mrityudata', 'Sooryavansham', 'Lal Badshah', 'Hindustan Ki Kasam' were flops. At that time, Yash was going to make the film 'Mohabbatein'. Both chance and hero were against. Yashji gave him the character of Narayan Shankar. A debt-ridden Amitabh also agreed to play the character. The film released and became the highest grossing film of the year. Amitabh, who has been receiving praise for his brilliant performance, started his second innings with 'Mohabbatein'.
