Shriya Pilgaonkar got an opportunity to work with Shahrukh Khan early in his career. According to him, if the film 'Fan' had been a superhit, people's reaction would have been different for him. Recently, during a conversation with Frontpage Insights, the actress opened up about her professional and personal life. Let's find out what he had to say:
You had an opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan early in your career, but the film did not do well at the box office. How do you take this experience? In fact, when it was decided after the audition that I was getting the role in 'Fan', I knew it was not an ordinary hero-heroine film. This was a different kind of film at that time. I knew that my screen time would not be much, but I was very happy to work with Shahrukh sir. Some new experiments were being done, and I really enjoyed the opportunity.
If it was anyone else in my place, they would have thought it needed a big launch with promotions. I understand that. I loved being a part of this film.
What kind of reaction did you get from the people of the industry after the release of the film? Many journalists called me after the film and said that they liked my character. I felt good that my hard work was appreciated. But it is true that if the film had been a superhit, people's reaction would have been different. Maybe I was mentally prepared to some extent, because social media was less influential then than it is today. At that time I had no PR advisor or talent agency to guide me.
Then I started auditioning and meeting people. A few films came up, but didn't take off. Then I heard that there was a new series called Mirzapur, and I auditioned for it, which turned out to be a big turning point for me.
Did you feel pressured while choosing the role because of the names of your parents, Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar? Do you ever feel uncomfortable, like a bold scene? No one really ever told me not to do this or not. My parents have always believed in me. When it comes to romance or intimate scenes, it is important that we understand what the intention is. Reading the script and its treatment reveals what the purpose of the scene is. The audience also understands why this has been done. So, I also see those scenes from the same perspective.
My parents have never judged me, but maintaining their legacy, respect and goodwill is very important to me. It's not just a question of on-screen scenes, but also how I am with everyone on set. I think we can judge a person when we see how he treats other people. So, it is very important for me to treat everyone on set with respect and dignity, as that helps build goodwill.
What do you want to say about your relationship? I'm currently single and I'm not really lying this time. Look, connection is very important to me. It should be emotional, spiritual and physical. It is important to have perfect coordination for all three. I want a partner who is comfortable with himself and not insecure about his success. It is very important to me that my partner is an energy giver, not an energy taker. And there should be respect.
Both your parents are actors. Are there some advantages and disadvantages of marrying someone from the same field? My parents maintained a balance in their married life. They understand each other's challenges. Both were young when they got married, but the challenges they have faced in their careers have proved helpful to each other. Creative people have always been fascinating to me. The only people who are interested in art are important to me.
