Narendran is currently the Global ECO and MD of Tata Steel, one of the world's largest steel producers.
Thatchat Vishwanath Narendran, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tata Steel, has been elected as the Chairman of the World Steel Association. Narendran will remain on this post till March 31 next year.
This is the second time that an Indian has been elected as the head of the World Steel Association. Earlier in 2021, JSW Group Chairperson Sajjan Jindal had headed this organization.
Along with Narendran, two other board members have also been elected to this organization – Colakoglu Metallurgy AS Ugur Dalbeler and Leon Topalian, President and CEO of Nucor Corp.

World Steel gave this information on its X handle on Tuesday (October 15). The organization wrote, 'WorldSteel is pleased to welcome Thatchat Vishwanath Narendran, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tata Steel and two other members.
Narendran also joined the 15-member executive committee.
Narendran has also been included in the 15-member Executive Committee of the World Steel Association. Sajjan Jindal, ArcelorMittal and other high level officials of JFE and Posco were present here.
85% of the world's steel producers in the World Steel Association
The World Steel Association covers a large part of the steel industry worldwide. Its members are responsible for 85% of total steel production in the world.
This organization includes more than 160 steel producers, national and regional steel associations and steel research institutes. This organization is a long standing platform for co-operation and knowledge sharing within the steel industry.
Narendran joined Tata Steel in 1988
Narendran joined Tata Steel in 1988. At Tata Steel, Narendran served as Vice President of Safety and Flat Products Division and Managing Director (MD) of Tata Steel India and Southeast Asia. He played a key role in the Tata Tiscon brand and distribution network.
Narendran is a Mechanical Engineering and MBA from NIT Tiruchirappalli.
Narendran is currently the Global ECO and MD of Tata Steel, one of the world's largest steel producers. He has graduated in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirapalli and MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
