PVR INOX losses of ₹11.8 crore in Q2: Profit was ₹166 crore in Q1, revenue down 19% at ₹1,622 crore

Multiplex chain PVR INOX has suffered a loss of Rs 11.8 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25. In the same quarter last year, the company had made a profit of Rs 166 crore.

PVR's consolidated revenue from operations declined 19% year-on-year to Rs 1,622 crore in the July-September quarter. In the same quarter last year, the company had generated a revenue of Rs 1999 crore.

PVR's revenue increased by 36% on quarterly basis

The loss of the multiplex chain company stood at Rs 11.8 crore, down 93.41% compared to the previous quarter (April-June 2024). In April-June it was Rs 179 crore. The company had then generated a revenue of Rs 1,191 crore. Accordingly, revenue has increased by 36% in the current quarter.

PVR INOX shares fell 2.54% this year

Shares of multiplex chain PVR INOX are trading 1.78% up at Rs 1,618.35 at 2:40 pm on Tuesday (October 15). PVR share has given a return of 15.93% in the last 6 months. It has fallen 4.23% in a month and 2.53% this year. The company's shares have given a negative return of 7.19% in the last one year.

How does PVR INOX earn? Multiplexes earn money in three ways:

  • Box Office: Earning money by selling tickets for movies and other events
  • Food and Beverage: Selling food and beverage to theatergoers.
  • Advertisements: Show ads before and during movies

PVR Inox now has 30% share of the box office collection. It has 18% share in total screens. According to ICICI Securities, sales of food items contribute about 30% of PVR Inox's total revenue.

PVR started in the 1990s

Ajay Bijli formed Priya Village Roadshow Limited on 26 April 1995. Its commercial operation started in June 1997. On 28 June 2002, Priya and Village Roadshow were demerged and the company was renamed PVR Limited. Ajay Bijli's family owned a theater in Delhi. The company set up its first multiplex in Pune.

Inox Leisure was started in 1999

INOX Group was started by Devendra Kumar Jain in 1963 when he decided to move beyond the trading business. Inox Leisure was established on 9 November 1999. It received the Certificate of Commencement of Business on 11 February 2000. The multiplex journey of this group started in 2002 from Bund Garden, Pune.
