Mahindra & Mahindra has renamed its recently launched electric SUV in the Indian market as 'BE 6e'. The company will now sell this electric car under the name 'BE 6'. The company has taken this decision due to the ongoing dispute over trademark with InterGlobe Aviation, the company that operates Indigo airline. Mahindra gave this information today (December 7).

InterGlobe Aviation has alleged trademark infringement over the use of '6E' in 'Mahindra BE 6E'. InterGlobe had filed a case in the Delhi High Court on December 3, which is likely to be heard on December 9. Mahindra says it has applied for registration for the 'BE 6e' trademark, which will be part of its electric SUV portfolio.

Mahindra & Mahindra says that, although we have changed the name of the electric SUV, it will continue the court case against InterGlobe Aviation for the 'BE 6e' trademark. Mahindra launched the electric SUV BE 6e in the Indian market on 26 November.

Mahindra said- there is no scope for dispute Mahindra Electric said in an official statement, 'We do not see any conflict in our branding, because IndiGo is an airline company and we are a car manufacturer. The registration we have filed relates to a completely different industry and product and the company mark is 'BE 6e' and not '6E' alone. In such a situation, there is no scope for confusion. The company said that their priority is to provide better services. Therefore, for the time being it has been decided to change the name of the car.

Dispute between Tata Motors and Indigo Mahindra said that earlier Tata Motors had objected to InterGlobe's use of the IndiGo name because Tata owns the Tata Indigo car brand. But, InterGlobe is still using the Indigo name in a different industry and business.

The company said that, if IndiGo's claim is not challenged, the Mahindra BE 6e controversy will set a bad precedent. In such a situation, the company has said that it will challenge this issue in the court, so that its rights on the brand name 'BE 6e' can be secured.

IndiGo operates with '6E' call sign IndiGo operates with the '6E' call sign, which is the basis of its branding and passenger services. Under this, the airline provides products like 6E Prime (seat selection, priority check-in and snacks), 6E Flex (flexible rescheduling and cancellation) and additional 6E-branded services.

This includes extra baggage option and lounge access. The airline had registered '6E Link' in several trademark categories in 2015. In this, he can use 6E in services provided under Class-9, Class-16, Class-35 and Class-39.
