Rajesh's online shopping experience
Rajesh clicked on the online link to buy the gadget, where an offer of 50% discount was visible. Rajesh got attracted and placed the order and became a victim of fraud.
What should Rajesh have done?
- Rajesh should have checked the website. He could read reviews to see if people were satisfied with their purchases on that site. If the reviews were negative, he would have been cautious.
- It should be ensured that the URL of the Website starts with https:. Checks the lock icon. If it is not so, then the website is not secure.
- Rajesh clicked on the link without thinking. If he had checked before clicking on the link in the email or advertisement, he would not have fallen into the trap of phishing.
- Had Rajesh kept security software on his device, he would have been protected from viruses and malware. This would also keep his information safe.
What else to keep in mind?
- Install only verified apps: Do not download the app with the help of any link. Install only verified apps on the device from Google Play, Windows App or Apple App Store.

Always set strong passwords with a combination of special characters, letters, numbers, and upper and lower case. Don't forget to change your password regularly. Do not save it in mobile.
- Remember… confidential information is never asked for: Bank officials or telecom companies never ask for confidential information like OTP, CVV, KYC on calls.
- Don't click on suspicious links: These suspicious links may attract your attention with claims of playing lottery abroad or earning thousands of rupees sitting at home. Such links may take you to phishing sites.
- Do not make payment on personal account: Before transferring any money, do your research thoroughly about the company or person you are dealing with. Do not make payment into anyone's personal account. Remember, legitimate companies will never ask you to make a payment into someone else's bank account.
