BookMyShow website and app crashed: Ticket booking for British band Coldplay's concert had started, performance is to take place next year

The website and app of ticket booking platform BookMyShow crashed today, Sunday, September 22. The crash happened just after the booking for the India performance of British band Coldplay started at 12 noon. However, the booking started again after about half an hour.

Coldplay will perform in India for the first time in 2016. The concert is scheduled to be held on 18 and 19 January next year at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Ticket prices start at Rs 2,500. The most expensive ticket is for the lounge which costs Rs 35,000.

Coldplay started at University College London

Coldplay is a British rock band formed in London in 1997. The band consists of vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer and percussionist Will Champion and manager Phil Harvey.

They are particularly known for their live performances. The band started at University College London, where they called themselves Big Fat Noises and then Starfish and now Coldplay. The band has won several awards including Grammy Awards, Brit Awards.

The company used to resell software to movie theatres

BookMyShow is currently India's largest entertainment ticketing platform. It started in 1999 as a software re-seller for movie theaters. In 2007, it transformed into a platform offering cloud-based ticket booking services for events, movies, sports.
